Use katılmak to join a group, attend an event or agree with a view. At this level, the useful distinction is between taking part in a discussion and accepting the opinion expressed in it.
The idea
The group, event or opinion takes the dative: koroya katılmak, toplantıya katılmak, görüşe katılmak. The complement and context determine the meaning; participation alone does not imply agreement. Keep the stem katıl- in katılıyorum, katılırım and katıldım. In katılacağım, the future ending’s k becomes ğ before the vowel of the person ending. Katılır mısınız? makes a polite invitation, with mısınız written separately.

Watch out
Do not use sizinle katılıyorum for “I agree with you”: say size katılıyorum. Sizinle toplantıya katılıyorum means attending the meeting together with you. The person accompanying you and the person whose view you share play different roles.
Try it yourself
Complete with the dative of toplantı: I will attend the meeting tomorrow.

toplantıya
toplantıya: the meeting is the event you will attend. The noun ends in a vowel, so y links it to the dative -a; the locative would only identify a location.
Disagree on this point: use the negative first-person singular present continuous of katılmak.
Show answer or example answer
katılmıyorum
katılmıyorum: bu konuda size frames a response to someone’s view, so the negative expresses disagreement. The ending -um identifies the speaker.
Use the first-person singular future of katılmak: I too will attend the workshop next week.

katılacağım
katılacağım: gelecek hafta and the instruction call for a future plan. Before the first-person ending -ım, katılacak becomes katılacağım, keeping the dotless ı.
Say that you could not join because your internet went down. Use the first-person singular past of inability.

katılamadım
katılamadım: the lost connection prevented participation. Katılmadım would report non-attendance without itself expressing inability.
