You are messaging a colleague you address informally. Read the exchange, confirm a detail and say what happens next; these are chat messages, not formal emails.

The idea

Give the topic and the useful detail first: Toplantı bugün saat üçte. A reply can acknowledge the message with Tamam and add an action: birazdan bakıyorum means “I’ll take a look shortly” here. Use Lütfen bana haber ver to request an update; Sana haber vereceğim commits you to sending one.

Watch out

Do not reverse who will act: haber ver asks the other person to tell you, while haber vereceğim says you will tell them. Tamam alone acknowledges the message; it does not say that the file has been checked.

Try it yourself

  1. Complete the message: the meeting is at three today. Write “at three”: Toplantı bugün ___.

    Show answer or example answer

    üçte / saat üçte

üçte or saat üçte: the blank needs a time, “at three”, not the bare number üç. After ç, the ending starts with t.

  2. Ask a colleague to let you know. Choose haber ver or haber vereceğim: Lütfen bana ___.

    Show answer or example answer

    haber ver

haber ver: you want the colleague to contact you, so this is a request addressed to them. Bana identifies you as the recipient.

  3. Promise that you will give the update. Choose haber ver or haber vereceğim: Sana ___.

    Show answer or example answer

    haber vereceğim

haber vereceğim: the sender promises to act. Sana tells us the colleague will receive the update; the ending identifies the speaker as the person giving it.

  4. Add the separate question particle: Dosya sana ulaştı ___?

    Show answer or example answer

    mı

mı: the last vowel of ulaştı is ı, so this question takes mı. Leave a space before it: ulaştı mı?.
