Write a short entry for yourself at the end of the day. The model follows one person from waking up to writing in a diary; you can replace the activities with your own.
The idea
Give the entry a date, then choose a few events in time order. Use önce (first), sonra (then) and time phrases such as öğleden sonra (in the afternoon). Tell completed actions from your own perspective; ben need not appear in every sentence because the verb ending identifies you. You can finish with what is happening now, signalled by şimdi (now).

Bugün erkenden uyandım. Önce balkonda kahvaltı yaptım. Sonra kütüphaneye gittim. Öğleden sonra evde kitap okudum. Akşam sebze çorbası yaptım.
Şimdi günlüğümü yazıyorum.

Watch out
Bugün means today, but does not make every action present: this morning’s waking is already over, so Bugün erkenden uyandım fits an evening entry. Change to the present when your meaning changes, as in Şimdi günlüğümü yazıyorum; do not switch tenses at random.
Try it yourself
You are writing in the evening about waking up that morning. Choose the completed event.
Show answer or example answer
uyandım
uyandım: at the evening writing time, waking up is a completed morning event. Uyanıyorum would describe waking in progress or a recurring situation, not this finished event.
Breakfast came first, the library visit second. Choose the linking word.
Show answer or example answer
sonra
sonra: the library visit follows breakfast in the given sequence. Önce would put it before another event and lose the intended link.
The diary writer went to the library alone. Choose the form meaning “I went”.
Show answer or example answer
gittim
gittim: the final -m identifies the writer as the person who went. Gitti refers to someone else, even if no name appears.
The writer is still writing this entry. Choose the form for the action happening now.
Show answer or example answer
yazıyorum
yazıyorum: the entry is still being written at this moment. Yazdım would present the writing as completed.
