に対して can point toward a person or issue, or set one fact against another.

The idea

After a noun, に対して marks the target of an attitude or response. Use に対する before a noun. For contrast, attach のに対して to a plain clause; a present affirmative な-adjective or noun takes な before の.

Watch out

Do not assume every に can be replaced: に対して emphasizes a target or contrast, not an ordinary destination or time. Contrast compares facts, not necessarily opposites.
