The idea

Identify yourself and the class or date, then say 授業を休みます. A brief reason such as 熱があるため may help, but share only what is necessary. Ask about homework with 教えていただけますか and mention a return date only if you know it.

Watch out

休みます can mean taking a break or being absent; 授業を休みます makes the class absence clear. A planned return is not a promise: update the teacher if it changes and follow your school’s reporting procedure.
