Guide someone through completing and sending a form in polite Japanese.

The idea

Use まず for the first step, 次に for the next and 最後に for the last. 開いたら makes opening the folder a prerequisite; 送信する前に places the check before sending, and 確認した後で places saving after the check. End each instruction with てください.

Examples

  • まず、共有きょうゆうフォルダーを開ひらいてください。First, open the shared folder.
  • フォルダーを開ひらいたら、申込書もうしこみしょをダウンロードしてください。Once you have opened the folder, download the application form.
  • 次つぎに、名前なまえと連絡先れんらくさきを記入きにゅうしてください。Next, fill in your name and contact details.
  • 送信そうしんする前まえに、記入きにゅうした内容ないようを確認かくにんしてください。Before sending, check the information you entered.
  • 確認かくにんした後あとで、ファイルを保存ほぞんしてください。After checking, save the file.
  • 最後さいごに、保存ほぞんしたファイルをメールで送おくってください。Finally, send the saved file by email.

Read-aloud uses a synthetic Japanese voice available on your device. Voice quality and availability vary; it does not assess your pronunciation.

Watch out

Do not confuse 前に with 後で: reversing them changes the order. Use the dictionary form before 前に and the past form before 後で. Name the file or destination when the reader might not know it.

    後で

後で means “after”: save only after checking.

Use it today

Write instructions for submitting a document: include a first step, a check before sending, and a final step. Read them in order and check that no prerequisite is missing.
