You will describe the weather, add -li to make words such as yağmurlu, and ask a question about tomorrow.
The idea
The weather is the subject hava followed by an adjective, with no verb: Hava soğuk, Hava güneşli. Rain and snow are subjects of the verb yağmak: Yağmur yağıyor, Kar yağacak. To make a weather adjective from a noun, add -li in its four shapes: yağmur becomes yağmurlu, kar becomes karlı. Ask with Hava nasıl? and put the time word first: Yarın hava nasıl olacak?
| Word | With -li | Sentence |
|---|---|---|
| güneş | güneşli | Hava güneşli. |
| yağmur | yağmurlu | Hava yağmurlu. |
| kar | karlı | Hava karlı. |
| bulut | bulutlu | Hava bulutlu. |
| sis | sisli | Hava sisli. |
| rüzgâr | rüzgârlı | Hava rüzgârlı. |
| fırtına | fırtınalı | Hava fırtınalı. |

Watch out
Do not say how you feel with the weather word. Soğuğum does not say that you feel cold; a person who is cold says üşüyorum, while Hava soğuk is only about the air.
Try it yourself
Add the suffix to kar (snow): snowy weather.
Show answer or example answer
karlı
karlı: the last vowel of kar is back and unrounded, so -li becomes -lı.
Add the suffix to bulut (cloud): cloudy weather.
Show answer or example answer
bulutlu
bulutlu: the last vowel u is back and rounded, so the suffix takes the shape -lu.
Complete with the verb yağmak (to fall, of rain or snow) in the present continuous: Snow is falling.
Show answer or example answer
yağıyor
yağıyor: snow is the subject of yağmak, and Turkish needs no empty "it"; -ıyor is added to the stem yağ.
Say "I am cold" with the verb üşümek (to feel cold) in the present continuous.
Show answer or example answer
üşüyorum
üşüyorum: a person's feeling needs the verb üşümek; soğuk describes the air and does not fit here.
