You will suggest a plan, invite one person, say yes with olur and say no without sounding rude.
The idea
To suggest something together, add -elim or -alım to the verb stem and write mi or mı as a separate word that follows the last vowel: çıkalım mı?, gidelim mi?. To invite one person, ask with the aorist: gelir misin?. Accept with olur or çok isterim; refuse with maalesef, müsait değilim and a reason, and offer başka bir gün. A time takes the locative (yedide), a destination the dative (müzeye).
| Verb | Suggestion: shall we …? | Invitation: will you …? |
|---|---|---|
| gitmek | gidelim mi? | gider misin? |
| gelmek | gelelim mi? | gelir misin? |
| buluşmak | buluşalım mı? | buluşur musun? |
| çıkmak | çıkalım mı? | çıkar mısın? |
| yapmak | yapalım mı? | yapar mısın? |
| oturmak | oturalım mı? | oturur musun? |
Examples
- Yarın akşam yürüyüşe çıkalım mı?Shall we go out for a walk tomorrow evening? The ending -alım means "we" in a suggestion, and the particle mı is written apart.
- Cumartesi akşamı bize gelir misin? Will you come over to our place on Saturday evening?
- Olur, saat yedide kafede buluşalım.OK, let's meet at the café at seven.Olur is the usual "agreed". A clock time takes the locative: yedide.
- Maalesef yarın akşam müsait değilim.Unfortunately I am not free tomorrow evening.Maalesef ("unfortunately") softens the refusal, and müsait değilim gives no detail to argue with.
- Çok isterim ama cumartesi çalışıyorum.I would love to, but I am working on Saturday.
- Cumartesi olmaz ama pazar günü olur.Saturday does not work, but Sunday does.Olmaz means "that will not work", olur means "that works": both judge the plan, not you.
- Başka bir gün buluşalım mı?Shall we meet another day?
- Hafta sonu için bir planın var mı?Do you have a plan for the weekend?

Watch out
Olur is a clear yes, "fine, agreed", not "maybe". A bare Olmaz can sound blunt, so start with maalesef, add müsait değilim or a reason, and offer another day. Also keep the particle apart and in harmony: çıkalım mı, not çıkalımmı or çıkalım mi.
Try it yourself
Add the suffix to müze (museum): Shall we go to the museum tomorrow?
Show answer or example answer
müzeye
müzeye: müze ends in a vowel, so the dative adds the buffer y, and the front vowel e gives -ye.
Add the suffix: Let's meet at seven o'clock.
Show answer or example answer
yedide
yedide: a clock time takes the locative, and the last vowel i is front, so the ending is -de.
Complete the suggestion: Shall we go out for a walk together?
Show answer or example answer
çıkalım
çıkalım: the last vowel of the stem, ı, is back, so the "we" ending is -alım and mı follows it.
Complete the invitation: Will you come to our place on Sunday?
Show answer or example answer
gelir
gelir: an invitation to one person uses the aorist, and after the front vowel e the ending is -ir, followed by misin.
