You run into someone you already know after a long gap. Start with Uzun zamandır görüşemedik, then ask how they are. This is a reunion, so a first-meeting introduction would feel out of place.

The idea

Uzun zamandır görüşemedik means “We haven’t managed to see each other for a long time.” Görüşmedik simply says you did not meet; görüşemedik adds that you could not, often suggesting a lack of opportunity. The “we” includes both people even when you address just one. With someone close, Seni çok özlemişim adds “I realise how much I missed you”: here -miş expresses a feeling noticed at the reunion, not a rumour.

Watch out

Do not change the verb to görüşemediniz to sound polite: that makes the subject “you”, leaving the speaker out. Keep görüşemedik. For a respectful follow-up, use Sizi yeniden görmek güzel; save the more intimate Seni çok özlemişim for a relationship where that warmth fits.
