Elif arrives for her first job interview with the wrong item in her bag. Read once to follow her changing feelings, then again to identify what the manager actually offers. This is an original fictional story, not a guide to hiring procedures.

The idea

Trace the turning point through actions: a forgotten folder creates a problem, but showing a drawing gives Elif something concrete to explain. Separate three things when reading the ending: what has happened, what is planned and what remains unknown. Support your conclusion with the manager’s words.

Elif'in kalbi hızla atıyordu.

Watch out

Tekrar görüşelim means “let’s meet again”; it does not mean “you are hired”. The manager’s interest is encouraging, but a second interview is still only another meeting. Do not turn the character’s relief into proof that she has the job.

Try it yourself

  1. What did Elif bring instead of her CV folder? Name the object in Turkish.

    Show answer or example answer

çizim defteri / çizim defterini / sarı defter / sarı defteri

Çizim defteri or sarı defter: the yellow notebook contains her drawings. The blue folder should have held her CV, so these are two different objects, not two names for the same file.

  2. What kind of place was in the drawing that interested the manager? Write its name in Turkish, without a suffix.

    Show answer or example answer

    kitapçı / bir kitapçı

Kitapçı: the drawing shows a bookshop with two armchairs and a table beside the window. The manager asks about this corner, and she explains the light and the need for a curtain.

  3. When is the second interview? Use the time expression from the story.

    Show answer or example answer

    salı günü / salı

Salı günü: the manager names Tuesday for their next meeting because his colleague will also be there. This is the date of the planned second interview, not the first one.

  4. Has Elif been hired by the end? Choose: evet / henüz belli değil.

    Show answer or example answer

henüz belli değil / belli değil

Henüz belli değil: she has a second invitation, and the narrator explicitly says there is no job offer yet. Her smile shows relief; it cannot establish a hiring decision.
