Cem knows how his novel should end, yet cannot finish it. Read this original story twice: first follow the conversation with his sister, then examine what he actually does with the manuscript.
The idea
Keep the two narrative levels separate: Cem writes, while Nevin acts inside his novel. Read ayrılacaktı as the departure planned in the first draft. Then compare that plan with the repaired workshop and the shared key: the character has developed attachments that the old ending does not explain.
Read the text
Derya, Nevin'in atölyenin yedek anahtarını komşusuna verdiği sayfayı açtı.
Nevin'in trene binip binmeyeceği henüz belli değildi.

Watch out
Çöpe atmayı düşündü reports a thought, not a completed action. The drawer tells you what happens to the old draft. Likewise, the ticket remains in the story, but henüz belli değildi leaves the decision about boarding the train open.
Try it yourself
Which place was Nevin going to leave in the first draft? Answer with one Turkish word.
Show answer or example answer
kasabadan
kasabadan: the first paragraph places Nevin’s planned departure in the town where her workshop is. The station is a later destination on the way out, not the place named in the original plan.
Who questioned the writer’s plan? Write the person’s name.
Show answer or example answer
Derya
Derya: the sister asks whether Nevin wants to leave or whether the writer wants to send her away. That question exposes the gap between the character’s wishes and Cem’s chosen ending.
Which word did Cem write instead of son?
Show answer or example answer
konuşma
konuşma: he replaces the word meaning “end” with one meaning “conversation”. The next morning’s scene at the neighbour’s door develops that change into an encounter.
What did Cem start doing? Choose: yeniden yazmaya / kitabı satmaya / dosyayı silmeye.
Show answer or example answer
yeniden yazmaya
yeniden yazmaya: the untouched tea and the extra sheet show sustained writing. He also keeps the old draft; nothing in the ending shows a sale, a deleted file or a completed novel.
