Use değiştirmek to say what you change, replace or exchange. Start with the forms table, then identify the person doing the changing and the thing affected in each example.
The idea
Değiştirmek takes an object: planı değiştirmek means to change the plan. A specific object takes the accusative. To name a replacement, use ile or its attached form: gömleği daha büyük bir gömlekle değiştirmek. Keep the stem değiştir- in değiştiriyorum and değiştirmiyorum; the aorist is değiştiririm. The pronoun can be omitted when the ending identifies the person.
| Person | Present continuous | Past | Future | Aorist (habit) | Negative present |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ben | değiştiriyorum | değiştirdim | değiştireceğim | değiştiririm | değiştirmiyorum |
| sen | değiştiriyorsun | değiştirdin | değiştireceksin | değiştirirsin | değiştirmiyorsun |
| o | değiştiriyor | değiştirdi | değiştirecek | değiştirir | değiştirmiyor |
| biz | değiştiriyoruz | değiştirdik | değiştireceğiz | değiştiririz | değiştirmiyoruz |
| siz | değiştiriyorsunuz | değiştirdiniz | değiştireceksiniz | değiştirirsiniz | değiştirmiyorsunuz |
| onlar | değiştiriyorlar | değiştirdiler | değiştirecekler | değiştirirler | değiştirmiyorlar |

Watch out
Ben değiştim means I changed as a person, not I changed something. Compare Planı değiştirdim (I changed the plan) with Plan değişti (the plan changed). The second sentence leaves the cause unstated; it does not claim that the change happened without a cause.
