Practise a feedback exchange about a draft report. The examples use respectful siz. In the original dialogue, a manager suggests cutting repetition and the writer negotiates what to keep.

The idea

Name something observable in the work, then suggest a change and its benefit: Sonucu başa alırsanız rapor daha kolay anlaşılır. Here the conditional presents an action and its likely result rather than issuing a command. To clarify the requested change, ask Hangi cümleyi değiştirmemi önerirsiniz?: değiştirmemi makes you, the speaker, the person who would change it. Bu noktada limits agreement to one particular point.

Yönetici: Raporun giriş bölümü konuyu açıkça anlatıyor. Sonuç bölümünü ise biraz uzun buldum.

Çalışan: Hangi kısmı kısaltmamı önerirsiniz?

Yönetici: İlk iki cümleyi birleştirirseniz tekrar azalır.

Çalışan: Anlıyorum; ancak örneği çıkarmak istemiyorum.

Yönetici: Örnek kalabilir. Yalnızca aynı fikri tekrarlayan cümleyi çıkaralım.

Çalışan: Tamam, yeni sürümü öğleden sonra paylaşırım.

Watch out

Anlıyorum means “I understand”; it does not itself mean “I agree”. Use Size katılıyorum when you share the view. You can acknowledge the reasoning and then state a reservation with ancak. Avoid Siz dikkatsizsiniz when the actual observation is two missing dates: it judges the person rather than identifying the omission.

  3. Ask which sentence you should change: Hangi cümleyi ___ önerirsiniz? Use değiştirmek; the person making the change is ben.

    Show answer or example answer

    değiştirmemi

değiştirmemi: the speaker would change the sentence, while the other person gives the suggestion. Değiştirmenizi would instead make the addressee the person doing the changing.

  4. Acknowledge understanding without agreeing: Söylediğinizi ___; ancak bu noktada farklı düşünüyorum. Use anlamak, first person singular, present continuous.

    Show answer or example answer

    anlıyorum

In pairs, use the dialogue as a model. Give one concrete observation about a report, propose a change, ask for clarification and agree on a next step. Include one reservation without a personal judgement.
