Use the causative-passive when someone is made to do something, often with a sense of reluctance.

The idea

The person made to act is the subject; mark the person causing it with に and a direct object with を. Godan 書く becomes 書かせられる, often shortened to 書かされる; ichidan 食べる becomes 食べさせられる. する becomes させられる and 来る becomes 来させられる. These forms conjugate like ichidan verbs: replace る with ました for polite past.

Watch out

Do not confuse 書かせる, “make someone write,” with 書かせられる, “be made to write.” The shortened form is common for godan verbs, but 話す becomes 話させられる, not 話さされる.
