Choose はず when evidence gives you an expectation; use わけ to make sense of a conclusion from a known fact.

The idea

Attach はず or わけ to a plain verb or い-adjective, a な-adjective with な, or a noun with の: 来るはず, 静かなわけ, 休みのはず. はずです predicts what should be true; わけです presents a conclusion as understandable in light of a reason.

Watch out

はず is an expectation, not a guarantee. わけがない or わけがありません means something is impossible; はずがない also expresses strong disbelief, while はずではない denies an expectation.
