An email to a teacher should help them identify you and answer your question.
The idea
Use a concise subject such as 宿題について, address the teacher as 田中先生 and identify your class and name. Ask one specific question, use 教えていただけますか for a polite request, and close with どうぞよろしくお願いします and your name.
| Part | Example |
|---|---|
Examples
Hello, Professor Tanaka.
I am Maria from the Japanese class.
I have a question about the class.
Should we submit the homework by Friday?
Could you let me know when you have time?
Thank you for your help.

Watch out
A proposed deadline is a question until confirmed. までに means by the stated time, not from it. Adapt your greeting and level of formality to the recipient; do not add さん after 先生.
Try it yourself
Choose and fill the blank:

先生 is the appropriate title after the teacher’s name; さん先生 is not.
