Two cousins plan a summer visit to their grandfather’s village home in Türkiye. Use their original dialogue to discuss your stay, the heat, lunch and a visit to the neighbours.
The idea
With kalmak (to stay), distinguish place from duration. Nerede kalacaksın? asks where: köyde or dedemin evinde. Ne kadar kalacaksın? asks how long: iki hafta. Put them together in Köyde iki hafta kalacağım. The future forms here express plans: kalacağım is “I will stay” and uğrayacağız is “we will drop in”.

Watch out
For a two-week stay, say iki hafta kalacağım, not iki haftada kalacağım. İki haftada gives a time frame for completing something; it does not express the length of this stay. After iki, keep hafta singular.
Try it yourself
Complete the reply: I will stay in the village. Use köy.
Show answer or example answer
köyde
köyde: the question asks where you will stay, so the village is a location. Köye would mean movement towards the village.
Give the length of the stay: two weeks. Write the number as a word.
Show answer or example answer
iki hafta / iki hafta boyunca
iki hafta gives the whole length of the stay; iki hafta boyunca is also possible and makes “throughout those two weeks” explicit. Neither answer adds a locative ending to hafta.
Complete the plan: tomorrow we will drop in on the neighbours. Use komşular.
Show answer or example answer
komşulara
komşulara: the neighbours are the people you will drop in on, so uğramak takes the dative here. The last vowel of komşular gives the ending -a.
Use both words to say that there are green beans for lunch.
Show answer or example answer
taze fasulye
taze fasulye: put the describing word before the noun. This phrase names green beans, so it answers the question about lunch; var says they are available.

Act out the cousins’ conversation, then change the place and duration. Add a lunch question and a plan for tomorrow. Take both roles, then continue with the lesson on what parents say.
