Use sınır for a geographical border, the boundary of an area or an abstract limit. This lesson follows the same noun from a village near a border to a project budget and personal limits.
The idea
The stem stays sınır: neither dotless ı disappears, and the final r does not change in sınırı, sınıra or sınırım. Compare sınırda (at the border) with bahçenin sınırında (at the garden’s boundary): the second form keeps the third-person possessive -ı and adds n before the case ending. The same pattern gives bütçe sınırı (budget limit) and bütçe sınırını as a specific object. For several limits belonging to us, use sınırlarımız; a case ending follows this whole form.

Watch out
Do not treat every sınırı as an accusative. In Bu çizgi sınırı gösteriyor, it is the specific object. In bütçe sınırı, the final -ı belongs to the noun compound. When that whole compound becomes the specific object, write bütçe sınırını, keeping the compound ending before -nı.
