Use kaza for an accident, whether on a bicycle or in traffic. You will describe a particular event, say whose accident it was, and keep the compound trafik kazası intact when adding a case ending.

The idea

The stem stays kaza: compare kazayı, kazaya, kazada and kazanın. Its final vowel gives back-vowel endings; there is no consonant to soften. Distinguish the object kazayı from the possessive kazası. The same -sı appears in trafik kazası, and a following case uses n: trafik kazasında, trafik kazasını. The plural is kazalar; “our accidents” is kazalarımız.

Watch out

Do not shorten trafik kazasında to trafik kazada. The compound needs -sı before the case ending. Also, kazasını means “his/her accident” as an object; kazayı identifies an accident without saying whose it was.
