Tatil names a break from work or study, including a holiday. You will follow one holiday through a sentence, then say whose holiday it is and talk about several breaks.
The idea
The stem tatil stays unchanged; its last vowel gives forms such as tatiller, tatilim and tatilimiz. Choose the case for the situation: tatile gitmek means to go on holiday, tatilde olmak to be on holiday, and tatilden dönmek to return from holiday. A possessive ending comes before the case: tatilimizde means during our holiday; onun tatilinde includes n after the third-person possessive.

Watch out
A translation may use a plural even for one break, but Turkish normally uses singular tatil for one holiday period. Use tatiller for several periods; keep both letters l where the stem meets -ler. In Bu tatili planlıyoruz, tatili is a definite object, not “his/her holiday”.
