You will conjugate anlamak in four forms and see why its final a disappears in the present.
The idea
The stem anla- ends in a vowel, and that changes three things. Before -ıyor the final a drops: anlıyorum (not anlayorum). The past needs no buffer and starts with d: anladım. The future adds a buffer y, and its k turns into ğ before a vowel: anlayacak, anlayacağım. The negative is anlamıyorum and anlamadım. What you understand takes the accusative (seni anlıyorum), but a language name stays bare (Türkçe anlıyorum).
| Person | Present | Past | Future | Negative present |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ben | anlıyorum | anladım | anlayacağım | anlamıyorum |
| sen | anlıyorsun | anladın | anlayacaksın | anlamıyorsun |
| o | anlıyor | anladı | anlayacak | anlamıyor |
| biz | anlıyoruz | anladık | anlayacağız | anlamıyoruz |
| siz | anlıyorsunuz | anladınız | anlayacaksınız | anlamıyorsunuz |
| onlar | anlıyorlar | anladılar | anlayacaklar | anlamıyorlar |
Examples

- Siz beni anlıyor musunuz?Do you understand me?
- Yarın her şeyi anlayacağız.Tomorrow we will understand everything.

Watch out
Do not keep the a before -ıyor: anlayorum and anlaıyorum are wrong, the form is anlıyorum. The same drop gives anlamıyorum (not anlamayorum). In the past and the future the a stays: anladım, anlayacağım.
