Use eleştirmek to criticise a decision, behaviour or piece of work. Criticism can be constructive or harsh; the verb alone does not tell us which. The table gives the main forms for all six persons.
The idea
The stem eleştir- stays intact: eleştiriyorum, eleştirdim, eleştiririm. In eleştireceğim and eleştireceğiz, the future ending’s k becomes ğ. A specific target is a direct object: bu kararı eleştirmek. Add a reason with pahalı olduğu için (because it is expensive). The table shows plural endings with onlar; singular verb forms are also possible with this pronoun.
| Person | Present continuous | Past | Future | Aorist (habit) | Negative present |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ben | eleştiriyorum | eleştirdim | eleştireceğim | eleştiririm | eleştirmiyorum |
| sen | eleştiriyorsun | eleştirdin | eleştireceksin | eleştirirsin | eleştirmiyorsun |
| o | eleştiriyor | eleştirdi | eleştirecek | eleştirir | eleştirmiyor |
| biz | eleştiriyoruz | eleştirdik | eleştireceğiz | eleştiririz | eleştirmiyoruz |
| siz | eleştiriyorsunuz | eleştirdiniz | eleştireceksiniz | eleştirirsiniz | eleştirmiyorsunuz |
| onlar | eleştiriyorlar | eleştirdiler | eleştirecekler | eleştirirler | eleştirmiyorlar |

Watch out
Do not transfer the dative from sana kızmak (be angry with you): criticise you is seni eleştirmek. These are different actions, so criticism does not itself mean that the speaker is angry. In the polite request eleştirir misiniz?, the question word is written separately.

eleştirdim: dün places the event yesterday and ben identifies the speaker. The stem ends in voiced r, so the past has d, and final -m marks “I”.
Use the future: We will critique the draft together tomorrow.

eleştireceğiz
eleştireceğiz: the requested future and the subject “we” require -eceğiz. Its ğ belongs to the future ending; the stem’s final r remains.

seni
seni: “you” is the person being criticised, so it takes the accusative. The later sana belongs to kızmıyorum and cannot determine the first verb’s object.
Fill the gap to give the reason: We criticise this proposal because it is expensive.
