Use gerçekleşmek to report that an event took place or that a wish became reality. The focus is on what happened, without necessarily naming who made it happen.
The idea
The event, change or dream is the subject: Buluşma gerçekleşti means the meeting took place; Hayalim gerçekleşti means my dream came true. This verb does not take a direct object. The table uses the third person singular, the useful form for such subjects. Keep the stem gerçekleş- intact: gerçekleşiyor, gerçekleşir, gerçekleşecek. In the past, final ş gives gerçekleşti; after negative -me, the form is gerçekleşmedi.
| Form (third person singular) | Affirmative | Negative |
|---|---|---|
| Present continuous | gerçekleşiyor | gerçekleşmiyor |
| Past | gerçekleşti | gerçekleşmedi |
| Future | gerçekleşecek | gerçekleşmeyecek |
| Aorist / general | gerçekleşir | gerçekleşmez |
| Reported past | gerçekleşmiş | gerçekleşmemiş |

Watch out
Do not turn “my dream came true” into Hayalimi gerçekleşti: hayalim is the subject, so it has no accusative ending. To name someone who makes a dream come true, use the related verb gerçekleştirmek: Hayalimi gerçekleştirdim means I made my dream come true.
