Use götürmek to take an object or accompany a person to another place. The verb does not specify whether you walk or drive. Start with the forms, then identify what moves and where it goes.
The idea
The stem götür- stays intact: götürüyorum, götürdüm, götürürüm. The future is götüreceğim: the future ending’s k becomes ğ before the vowel in the person ending. A specific object takes the accusative, and a destination noun takes the dative: çantayı arabaya götürmek. For a request, use götürür müsün?; götür addresses one familiar person, while götürün is plural or polite. The table shows plural endings with onlar; singular verb forms are also possible.

Watch out
Do not translate every English “bring” as getirmek. Direction depends on the viewpoint: götürmek takes something elsewhere, while getirmek brings it towards the speaker or the place treated as “here”. Neither verb tells you the means of transport.
Try it yourself
Complete with the past form of götürmek for ben: I took the bag to the car yesterday.
Show answer or example answer
götürdüm
götürdüm: dün places the event yesterday; ben needs -m. The last vowel of the stem gives -dü, and the voiced r keeps the consonant d.
Use the future of götürmek for ben: I will take you to the station tomorrow.
Show answer or example answer
götüreceğim
götüreceğim: the subject is “I”, so the future needs -im. Before this vowel, götürecek changes its final k to ğ; götürecek alone would mean “he/she will take”.
Add the destination ending to araba: I am taking the bag to the car.
Show answer or example answer
arabaya
arabaya: the car is the destination, so araba takes -ya, with y between two vowels. Arabada would locate an action at or in the car, without naming its destination.
Choose götür or getir: the speaker stays here; the box goes over there.
Show answer or example answer
götür
götür: the speaker explicitly stays here and sends the box there. Getir would reverse that direction by asking for the box to come towards the speaker.
