Use hazırlamak to get food, materials or a space ready. Work with the forms table, then decide whether you are preparing something or getting yourself ready.
The idea
Hazırlamak takes the thing being prepared as its object: kahve hazırlamak is to prepare coffee; çantaları hazırlamak means to get the particular bags ready. The stem hazırla- gives hazırlıyorum: its final a narrows to ı before -yor. In hazırlayacağım, the a stays, y joins the vowels, and the future ending’s k becomes ğ before the person ending. Use hazırlarım for a routine. With an explicit onlar, the verb may also appear without plural -lar.
| Person | Present continuous | Past | Future | Habitual |

Watch out
Do not use hazırlıyorum on its own to mean “I am getting myself ready”. That is hazırlanıyorum. Compare Çantayı hazırlıyorum (I am getting the bag ready) with Gezi için hazırlanıyorum (I am getting ready for the trip). The object of hazırlamak may be omitted when it is already clear from context.
Try it yourself
Complete with the present continuous: I am preparing coffee for the meeting now.
Show answer or example answer
hazırlıyorum
hazırlıyorum: the action is happening now, and ben requires -um. The dotless ı in hazırlıyor- belongs to this verb’s present form; the result is one word.
Complete with the future: We will prepare the posters tomorrow.
Show answer or example answer
hazırlayacağız
hazırlayacağız: biz calls for the plural speaker ending -ız. After future -acak, this changes k to ğ; the y links the vowel-final stem to the future ending.
Choose the verb and use the present continuous: I am getting myself ready for the trip.
Show answer or example answer
hazırlanıyorum
hazırlanıyorum: the speaker is making themself ready, rather than preparing a separate object. The n in hazırlan- carries that distinction.
Use the negative present continuous: I am not preparing food this evening.
Show answer or example answer
hazırlamıyorum
hazırlamıyorum: the preparation is denied. Keep hazırla- and add the negative present sequence -mıyor- before -um; without m, the answer would say the opposite.
