Use uzaklaşmak when distance increases, whether someone leaves the shore or a discussion loses its focus. The table gives affirmative forms; the examples also show a habitual action and staying on topic.
The idea
The subject itself moves or becomes more distant. Name what it moves away from with the ablative: kıyıdan uzaklaşmak. The same pattern works figuratively: konudan uzaklaşmak means to stray from the topic. The stem uzaklaş- stays intact in uzaklaşıyorum and uzaklaşırım. With onlar, forms without the final plural ending are also possible.

Watch out
Do not treat uzaklaşmak as “move something away”: sandalyeyi uzaklaşmak does not express that. Use sandalyeyi uzaklaştırmak to move the chair away. Also distinguish moving away from the shore, kıyıdan uzaklaşmak, from approaching it, kıyıya yaklaşmak.
Try it yourself
Add the right case ending to kıyı: the boat is moving away from the shore.

kıyıdan
kıyıdan: the shore is the point the boat moves away from. The final vowel ı gives -dan; no linking consonant is needed after the vowel in kıyı.
Use the definite past of uzaklaşmak for ben: yesterday I moved a little away from the crowd.

uzaklaştım
uzaklaştım: dün locates the movement yesterday, and ben identifies the speaker. The past ending starts with t after voiceless ş, and final -m marks the first person.
Use the future of uzaklaşmak for ben: tomorrow I will get away from the city’s noise.

uzaklaşacağım
uzaklaşacağım: yarın places the plan in the future. In the first-person form, the future ending’s k becomes ğ before -ım: compare uzaklaşacak.
Complete with uzaklaşmak and -madan: give an example without straying from the topic.

uzaklaşmadan
uzaklaşmadan: the example must remain relevant to the topic. Adding -madan to uzaklaş- expresses “without straying”; it describes how to give the example, not a past departure.

Write a sentence about moving away from a place and another about drifting from a topic. Change one into the future with ben. Then compare ayrılmak, which can describe leaving or parting without stressing increasing distance.
