Describe how you share the housework, from washing dishes to putting clean clothes away. Learn each chore as a useful phrase and connect it with the tool you need.

The idea

Learn the noun and verb together: bulaşık yıkamak means to wash dishes, çamaşır asmak to hang out laundry, and ütü yapmak to iron. For dusting, use toz almak; naming the surface gives rafların tozunu almak. Silmek describes wiping a surface, while toplamak in odayı toplamak means putting things in order. These actions can be separate parts of cleaning.

Watch out

Do not use yapmak for every chore just because you “do” housework. Ev işi yapmak is general; bulaşık yıkamak names washing dishes. A room can be clean but untidy: odayı toplamak does not necessarily mean wiping or washing it.

Try it yourself

  1. Choose what you remove when dusting shelves.

    Show answer or example answer

    tozunu

tozunu: shelves gather dust; this sentence describes removing it. Rafların tozunu identifies the dust on those shelves, not a rubbish bag.

  2. Choose the damp item used to wipe the tabletop.

    Show answer or example answer

    bezle

bezle: a damp cloth can wipe the tabletop; a vacuum cleaner is not the damp wiping tool described here. The form means “with a cloth”.

  3. Choose what you do to dry laundry before putting it in a drawer.

    Show answer or example answer

    katlıyorum

katlıyorum: the laundry is already dry and will go in a drawer, so folding fits this step. Hanging it out belongs to a different stage.

  4. Choose the verb for putting things back in place in a clean but untidy room.

    Show answer or example answer

    topluyorum

topluyorum: the clue is putting objects back in their places. Duruluyorum means rinsing, which would remove soap or detergent, not clutter.

Use it today

Make a shared household plan with four chores. Give each person a task and name a tool for two tasks. Include both dusting and tidying so that the difference is clear.
