You will describe preparing, cooking and serving a meal. Learn the equipment together with what you do with it, so you can explain a kitchen task without pointing.
The idea
Build useful pairs: bıçakla doğramak means to chop with a knife, kaşıkla karıştırmak to stir with a spoon, and kepçeyle doldurmak to fill using a ladle. A tencere is a deep cooking pot; a tava is a shallow frying pan. For the heat source, distinguish ocak (hob or stovetop) from fırın (oven): ocakta pişirmek and fırında pişirmek describe different ways of cooking. Learn these combinations as vocabulary, without treating one vessel as the only possible choice for a dish.

Watch out
Do not use the same verb for both sides of boiling: Su kaynıyor means the water is boiling; Suyu kaynatıyorum means I am boiling the water. With kaynamak, the liquid is the subject. With kaynatmak, a person makes it boil; the liquid is the object.
Try it yourself
Choose the deep cooking vessel and add the ending for “in it”.
Show answer or example answer
tencerede
tencerede: the clue “deep” points to a pot rather than a shallow pan. The soup cooks inside it, so the answer needs the location ending.
Choose where the cake is baking and add the ending for “in it”.
Show answer or example answer
fırında
fırında: a cake bakes in an oven; a fridge keeps food cold. Keep the dotless ı in both the stem and the ending.
Choose the verb: the water is boiling, so we can now brew the tea.
Show answer or example answer
kaynıyor
kaynıyor: the subject is the water itself. kaynatıyorum would introduce an “I” who boils something and would not fit Su here.
Choose the tool for serving soup and write “with a …”.
Show answer or example answer
kepçeyle / kepçe ile
kepçeyle / kepçe ile: a ladle transfers liquid soup into bowls, while a grater shreds solid food. Both forms express the tool used.
