らしい can express a conclusion based on what you heard or noticed, or a quality typical of a person or thing.

The idea

For indirect information, attach らしい to plain verbs and い-adjectives, and directly to nouns and な-adjective stems: 来ないらしい, 安いらしい, 静からしい, 休みらしい. Past forms such as 休みだったらしい keep だった. A source can be marked with によると. Noun + らしい can also mean characteristically that noun: 春らしい日.

Watch out

Hearsay そうです simply reports a source; らしい presents an indirect conclusion, sometimes from observed clues. Do not insert だ in 静からしい or 休みらしい. Typicality depends on context: 春らしい日 is a springlike day, not a report that it is spring.
