Use ずに to say that someone does one thing without doing another. It often sounds more formal or written than ないで.

The idea

Take the negative ない form, remove ない and add ずに: 書かない → 書かずに, 食べない → 食べずに. The irregular forms are する → せずに and 来る → 来ずに. The final verb supplies the tense.

Watch out

Do not form する as しずに. ないで can also mean “without doing,” but ないでください is a negative request; ずに is not used in that request pattern.
