A meeting about the town square

The idea

〜人もいれば〜人もいます contrasts groups with different wishes. 〜ことにしました marks a decision; 〜使われ方 refers to how the square is used. The plan is a trial, with a later check.

• 町まちの広場ひろばをどう使つかうか話はなし合あうために、住民じゅうみんが集あつまりました。Residents gathered to discuss how to use the town square.
• 庭にわがほしい人ひともいれば、子こどもが遊あそぶ場所ばしょがほしい人ひともいました。Some wanted a garden, while others wanted a place for children to play.
• しかし、両方りょうほうの案あんをそのまま実現じつげんするには、広場ひろばは狭せますぎました。However, the square was too small for both ideas in full.
• そこでミカさんは、端はしに花はなを植うえて、真まん中なかを空あけておくことを提案ていあんしました。Then Mika suggested planting flowers along the edge and leaving the middle open.
• 花はなの世話せわを誰だれがするか話はなし合あった後あと、みんなはその案あんを試ためすことに賛成さんせいしました。After discussing who would care for the flowers, everyone agreed to try the plan.
• 三さんか月げつ後ごにまた集あつまって、広場ひろばの使つかわれ方かたを確たしかめることにしました。They decided to meet again in three months to see how the square was being used.

Watch out

The garden and play space are proposals, not two complete projects approved as originally imagined.
