Fiyat: price, cases and quoted amounts

The idea

The stem keeps its final t before vowels: fiyatı, fiyata, fiyatımız. Its last vowel a selects back-vowel endings despite the earlier i. The locative and ablative have two consecutive ts: fiyatta, fiyattan. Compare bu fiyatı (this price, as an object) with ürünün fiyatı (the product’s price); when the latter is an object, it becomes ürünün fiyatını. In bu fiyata kargo dahil, the dative links the price to what is included.

Watch out

Do not stop at ürünün fiyatı when that whole phrase is the specific object of asking or checking. Keep the possessive -ı, then add linking n and accusative -ı: ürünün fiyatını. The form fiyatı alone can be an accusative or a possessive; its role depends on the sentence.
