When arranging a visit, a name can include the people around that person. You will build forms for a family or familiar group, then add endings for going to them, being at their home and coming from them.
The idea
In a family context, Ahmetler means Ahmet and his family; elsewhere it can mean his companions. The context identifies the group, rather than necessarily several people named Ahmet. Choose -lar after a ı o u and -ler after e i ö ü: Fatmalar, Ahmetler. The familiar household suffix -gil keeps its vowel, as in babamgil; -giller combines it with -ler, as in Ayşegiller. These household expressions belong especially to everyday speech. Add case endings to the completed group form: Ahmetlere, Fatmalarda, Ayşegillerden. Neither the family suffix nor a following case ending takes an apostrophe.
| Form | Base | Result |
|---|---|---|
| -lar | Fatma | Fatmalar |
| -ler | Ahmet | Ahmetler |
| -gil | babam | babamgil |
| -giller | Ayşe | Ayşegiller |
Examples
- Ahmetler yarın geliyor.Ahmet and his family are coming tomorrow.
- Ayşegiller balkonda çay içiyor.Ayşe and her family are drinking tea on the balcony.
- Bu akşam Fatmalara gidiyoruz. We are going to Fatma’s family home this evening.

Watch out
Do not carry the apostrophe from Ahmet'e into Ahmetlere. Also watch the order with kinship words: annemler starts from annem (my mother) and includes her group; annelerim makes “mothers” plural before adding “my”.
Try it yourself
Build one word meaning “to Ahmet and his family” with the given endings.
Show answer or example answer
Ahmetlere
Ahmetlere: the last vowel in Ahmet is the front vowel e, so the group is Ahmetler. The final -e marks the destination; it attaches to the group without an apostrophe.
Build one word meaning “at Fatma’s family home”.
Show answer or example answer
Fatmalarda
Fatmalarda: the back vowel in Fatma gives Fatmalar. Its last vowel is still a, so location takes -da; the phrase refers to the family’s home.
Join the parts: “from Ayşe and her family”.

Ayşegillerden
Ayşegillerden: join Ayşe, gil, ler and den. The two adjacent instances of l both remain. The final -den marks the source, and its vowel follows the e in -ler.
Build “my mother and her family/group”, not “my mothers”.
Show answer or example answer
annemler
annemler: first identify one person, annem, with -m. Then -ler includes the people with her. Reversing those endings would produce annelerim, “my mothers”.

Imagine visits to three households. Write who is coming, whose home you are going to and whose home you are at. Name the people each family expression includes, then check the suffix order and spelling.
