Write to the organiser of a fictional photography workshop whom you have never met. The model shows how to frame a short enquiry; the phrases also work when the topic changes.
The idea
Use a short subject to name the topic. Open with Sayın Selin Kaya, when you know the recipient’s full name, or Sayın Yetkili, when you do not know the responsible person’s name. Put a comma after the salutation and start the body on a new line with a capital. State why you are writing, then make one clear request. Close with Saygılarımla, and put your own full name on the next line.

Watch out
Do not put your own name after Sayın: that line addresses the reader. The name below Saygılarımla identifies the writer. A polite frame cannot make an unclear request useful: say which programme or information you need.
Try it yourself
Choose the opening before the recipient’s name: ___ Selin Kaya, (Sayın / Saygılarımla)
Show answer or example answer
Sayın
Sayın fits before the recipient’s full name; Saygılarımla would end the message before the request has even begun.
Choose an informative subject for a photography workshop enquiry: Konu: ___ (Fotoğraf atölyesi / Merhaba)
Show answer or example answer
Fotoğraf atölyesi
Fotoğraf atölyesi tells the organiser which activity the message concerns; Merhaba is a greeting and gives no topic.
Choose the formal closing before the signature: ___, Deniz Aras (Saygılarımla / Sayın)
Show answer or example answer
Saygılarımla
Saygılarımla gives a respectful closing before the signature; Sayın needs an addressee and belongs at the opening.
The sender is Deniz Aras and the recipient is Selin Kaya. Who signs below the closing? Deniz Aras / Selin Kaya
Show answer or example answer
Deniz Aras
Deniz Aras is the sender in this situation, so this name goes below the closing. Selin Kaya is the recipient and belongs in the salutation.
