Use duyurmak when someone makes news, a change or a programme known. At B2, distinguish the information announced from the people receiving it, then describe an announcement without naming its author.
The idea
Duyurmak takes the announced information as its object: yeni programı duyurmak. A named recipient takes the dative: katılımcılara duyurmak. An entire statement can be the object too: atölyenin ücretsiz olduğunu duyurdu means “announced that the workshop was free”. The stem duyur- remains; compare duyuruyorum, duyurdum and duyuracağım. Duyuruldu is passive (“was announced”); duyurun addresses several people or one person politely. The table shows plural verbs with onlar; singular agreement is also possible with human plural subjects.
| Subject | Present continuous | Past | Future | Aorist | Negative present continuous |

| biz | duyuruyoruz | duyurduk | duyuracağız | duyururuz | duyurmuyoruz |

Watch out
Haberi duydum says that I received the news; haberi duyurdum says that I made it known. The extra ur changes who does what. An announcement may be written, so duyurmak does not require speaking aloud or prove that everyone heard it.
Try it yourself
Choose “hear” or “announce” and use the past: the association announced the new programme to everyone yesterday.
Show answer or example answer
duyurdu
duyurdu: the association is giving information to everyone, so it is the announcer, not the listener. The past form for this singular subject ends in -du.
Use the future for “I”: I will announce the new time tomorrow.
Show answer or example answer
duyuracağım
duyuracağım: ben identifies the speaker and yarın places the announcement tomorrow. The future form’s k becomes ğ before the vowel of -ım; the stem’s r stays.
Add the case ending to “participants”: we will announce this change to all participants.
Show answer or example answer
katılımcılara
katılımcılara: the participants receive the information, while bu değişikliği already names what is announced. The plural noun therefore takes dative -a, rather than an accusative ending.
Use the passive past: the results were announced yesterday. Do not name an announcer.
Show answer or example answer
duyuruldu
duyuruldu: the results do not make an announcement themselves. Passive duyurul- followed by past -du leaves the announcer unnamed; this nonhuman plural subject takes a singular verb.
